IMMIGRATION PROCESS
1 – TRP – Temporary residence permit (Residencia provisional)
2 – PRP – permanent residence permit(Residencia definitiva)
3 – Nationality (Nacionalidad)

Details of each stage:
1 – TRP – Temporary residence permit (Residencia provisional)
Necessary documents:
1. Birth certificate (or its copy/replica) with apostille and translation into Spanish;
2. Non-conviction certificate with apostille and translation into Spanish;
3. Certificate of marriage, divorce or a change of name (original, copy or replica) with apostille and translation into Spanish (if last names in applicant’s passport and birth certificate differ).
Procedure of handing in documents:
1. Medical examination (tests)
Blood and urine are tested, fluorography is made.
These tests should clarify if the applicant suffers from AIDS, hepatitis B and C, tuberculosis.
Besides, they detect if the applicant is on drugs.
If the tests are positive, the applicant is denied a TRP.
If you have got any problems of the above mentioned ones, you must inform our agents beforehand.
The medical examination takes place at the Immigration Department of the Dominican Republic (Direccion General de Migracion) in Santo Domingo.
2. Photographing
4 full face photos and 2 photos in profile are taken.
3. Copying documents
Black and white copies of all pages of your international passport are made as well as colored copies of the main page and the page bearing the entry stamp.
All the procedures of this stage take 2-3 hours.
Procedure of receiving documents:
1. Obtaining of a Dominican ID (cedula)
Plastic card of the Dominican ID (Cedula) is received at the Central Election Commission (JCE) with the personal presence of the applicant.
The applican leaves electronic fingerprints, electronic signature, is photographed.
All the data are sent to the central registry of the JCE.
2. Obtaining TRP (Residencia provisional)
Plastic card of TRP (Residencia provisional) is received in the Central Migration Department (DGM) with the personal presence of the applicant.
The applicants is photographed, all the data are sent to the central registry of the Dominican residents.
It takes 3-5 hours to receive all the documents.
The appliacant is always accompanied by Passportoff employees while passing medical examination and receiving documents.
2 – PRP – permanent residence permit (Residencia definitiva)
Necessary documents:
1. Dominican ID (Cedula)
2. Resident card (Residencia)
Procedure of handing in documents:
The procedure is the same as the one for TRP with one exception: the applicant does not have to pass medical examination once more if he or she passed it less than a year before.
Procedure of receiving documents:
1. Obtaining PRP (Residencia definitiva)
Plastic card of PRP (Residencia definitiva) is received in the Central Migration Department (DGM) with the personal presence of the applicant..
The applicants is photographed, all the data are sent to the central registry of the Dominican residents.
It takes 1-2 hours to receive all the documents.
3 – Nationality (Nacionalidad)
Necessary documents:
1. birth certificate (replica) with apostille and translation into Spanish;
2. certificate of marriage (replica) with apostille and translation into Spanish (if last names in applicant’s passport and birth certificate differ).
Procedure of handing in documents:
1. Photographing
4 full face photos on a white background are made.
2. Copying documents
Colored copies of the main page of the international passport, the Dominican ID (Cedula) and permanent residence permit card (Residencia definitiva)
Interview
7-10 days after handing in documents for naturalization the interview is fixed.
It is performed orally and takes a little time.
The applicant should answer several questions on the geography, economics and history of the country.

Decree
When all the instances are passed through, the documents come to the Presidential Secretariat (Presidencia) in order to add the applicant’s name to the Presidential Decree on attribution of nationality.
The Decree is published in the gazette.
Oath
After the decree is published the date of oath for the future Dominican national is fixed.
It is usually arranged at 9 am and takesabout two hours.
During the solemn procedure the new nationals of the Republic read the oath in chorus (from paper) and receive congratulations and a handshake from the Deputy Minister of Interior.
Procedure of receiving documents:
10-14 days after the oath the documents that confirm the naturalization of the applicant are received at the special Department of the Interior.
The applicant’s presence is not obligatory.
It takes 1 hour to receive the documents.
The interview and the oath tale place at the Ministry of the Interior of the Dominican Republic (Ministerio de Interior y Policia) in Santo Domingo.
